Privacy Policy and Agreement
Augusta VAH Federal Credit Union is owned by the members and is run by a board of directors. You can be confident that your financial privacy is a top priority. We are required by federal law to give you this Privacy Notice to explain how we share, collect, use and protect your personal information. Please read this notice in its entirety to understand what we do.
We are committed to providing you with competitive products and services to meet your financial needs, which requires that we share information about you to complete your transactions. In order to do so, we have entered into agreements with other companies that provide services to us or additional financial products for you to consider. Under these arrangements, we may disclose all the information we collect, as described below, to companies that perform marketing and other services on our behalf and to other financial institutions with which we have joint marketing agreements. We only work with companies that agree to strong confidentiality and security safeguards, and we do not allow those companies to sell the information to third parties.
Information We Share
The types of personal information we collect and share depend on the product or service with us. This information can include:
- Information from you on membership and loan applications and other forms;
- Information about your transactions and history with us;
- Information from a consumer-reporting agency;
- Information obtained from current or past employers or from other institutions with which you conduct business, for verification purposes. We may disclose all of the information we collect as described above, as permitted by law.
How we share the Information
We may disclose nonpublic personal information as listed above to the following types of third parties:
- Financial companies such as insurance and mortgage service companies;
- Non-financial companies, such as consumer reporting agencies, data processors, check/share draft printers, financial statement publishers, retailers, plastic card processors, direct marketers, government agencies and mail houses;
- Court orders, legal investigations and other entities as permitted by law. Please note: If you are a new member, we can begin sharing your information 30 days from the date you receive this notice.
Disclosure of Information to Parties that Provide Services to Us
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) governs the sharing of information that may affect upon you for purposes involving credit, collections, employment, insurance, and purposes set forth in Section 604 of the Act. FCRA permits us to share with our affiliates and credit reporting agencies information we learn from our experience with you.
We may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above to the companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements. We only work with companies who agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide. As a result of these arrangements, we may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above. We may also disclose information about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our credit union, and follow your instructions as you authorize or protect the security of our financial records. We do not permit these companies to sell the information we provide to other third parties.
Information about Former Members
We do not disclose any nonpublic information about our members to anyone, except as permitted by law.
How We Protect Your Information
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to employees who have a business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to protect your nonpublic personal information.
What You Can Do to Help
- Protect your personal identification numbers (PIN) and never keep PINs with your debit or credit card;
- Use caution when disclosing your account numbers and social security number. No one from the credit union will call you and ask for it. We have that information;
- Keep your information with us current so we can contact you if we detect potential fraud. Remember it is essential that we have your current address and phone number;

Note: Regarding general on-line practices
Augusta VAH Federal Credit Union takes a proactive approach to protecting the information of our website visitors. The information from persons visiting our site is collected for statistical purposes only. We create summary statistics from the collected information that is used only to improve the content of our site and its delivery to our members. We collect no information that would identify you personally. When you send us personal identifying information, by e-mail, the information is used only to fulfill or respond to your requests. We may forward your e-mail to other Credit Union employees, who are better able to respond to your request. However, the information is never released to other organizations unless required by law and is, in no way, used for profiling purposes.
Links: The Credit Union will frequently link to other sites as a convenience to our members. The Credit Union will seek to link with other sites that adhere to similar privacy standards. However, the Credit Union is not responsible for the content of the linked sites, or for their policies on the collection of member information.
Note: Regarding the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to individually identifiable information about a child that is collected online, such as full name, home address, e-mail address, telephone number or any other information that would allow someone to identify or contact the child. Augusta VAH Federal Credit Union does not currently collect any such personal information regarding visitors to the website – children or otherwise.
The Credit Union reserves the right to modify, change or amend this Privacy Policy and Agreement at any time without notice other than as expressly required by applicable law. This disclosure will be in an easily read form that will be provided annually.
